Dear parents of babies born in the current year 2023,
dear parents expecting a child by Easter 2024,

since 1 September 2023, a passive immunisation against the RSV virus has been approved (Nirsevimab, trade name: Beyfortus). Unfortunately, there is not yet a STIKO recommendation (German Standing Committee on Vaccination) or a statement by the RKI (Robert Koch Institute) on this. In a large-scale study of 1,490 children, severe RSV infections were reduced by 74.5 % (study in the New England Journal of Medicine).

In a further large study (HARMONIE study), an even larger group of children was examined last year; some of the children in my care also took part in this study. Here, too, preliminary results show good efficacy combined with good tolerability (press release by Sanofi on the HARMONIE study).
